Our final program…
April 26-May 31st | All things power-skating & edge work at Larry Grossman Arena
What to Expect
Did you miss our six-week winter skating intensive? Don’t worry, we’re bringing it back for one last hurrah this Spring at Larry Grossman Arena from April 26th-May 24th. Sessions will be led by Bronwyn Brennan and will cover stride techniques, edges, backwards skating, speed, and acceleration (both backward and forward) ensuring that your child will have all the tools in their pocket to succeed this 2026/2027 season.
THE DATES:
Larry Grossman, Pad 2 (4 on 4 pad)
*note: these classes cannot exceed a strict maximum of 14 players. If there is no space in the class, Bronwyn will not be able to accommodate late registrations.
First come, first serve. Book as soon as possible to ensure your child has a spot in this program.
-
Week one of the session will begin with a stride concentration that builds into speed and acceleration. Students will learn how to properly push and how to incorporate crossovers and edges into their forward movement, guaranteeing a faster and more explosive stride that defenders will hate to see coming.
-
Week two will build from week one with a continuation of stride, as well as a heavy focus on edge work. Players will be challenged to develop inside and outside edges, on one foot and on two. Pivots, crossovers, ‘Mitch Marner flips,’ and more!
-
Speed and acceleration week!
Week four will take everything that players have learned in the first three weeks and build those techniques into what really matters: speed.
Players will go through a series of drills meant to strengthen their legs and core balance, ensuring confident strides in and out of standstill positions.
-
Speed with the puck!
As simple as that. Players will practice various techniques for skating with the puck, while ensuring they have their heads up in and out of evasive maneuvers and straight-line skating.
-
Backwards week! This week will begin to touch on all things backwards skating. All players (yes, forwards need to know how to skate backwards as well) will learn how to build and adjust speed backwards. Gap control and pivot work will be core focusses of this class, as well as acceleration from a standstill.
-
The final burn!
Where everything comes together.
SPEED, SPEED, SPEED.
Be prepared to sweat!
MAY DRYLAND OPTION:
After the May sessions, players will have the option of adding on to their program with a dryland hour outside on the back field.
In sprints, hill sprints, core exercises, and other strength drills, players will ensure that they are well rounded in all areas of athleticism, contributing to more speed and power on the ice!
